Anniversary Dinner
The North Texas Gay Lesbian Bisexual Transgender Chamber of Commerce announced today that Mitchell Gold, co-founder and chairman of Mitchell Gold + Bob Williams (www.mgandbw.com) will deliver the keynote address at the Chamber's 3rd Anniversary & Business Excellence Awards Dinner on March 25.
Gold and Williams started their company in Taylorsville, NC, in 1989. They have equipped national retailers like Crate & Barrel, Restoration Hardware, Pottery Barn and Williams Sonoma Home with stylish leather and upholstered furniture.
"The Chamber is honored that Mitchell Gold has accepted the invitation to speak at our anniversary event," said Sherry Briggs, the Chamber's 2008 Chairman and co-owner of Zebra Printing & Graphics. "Mitchell Gold + Bob Williams provides a beautiful example of a business that has become highly successful while being responsible to its employees and community."
Today, with 700+ employees, the company operates from a 600,000-square foot state-of-the-art factory that has a gourmet-health-conscious café with their own corporate chef, employee gym, indoor walking track, a concierge center, and its own on-site daycare center, the first in the residential furniture industry. The daycare center received a Four Star Rating from The Division of Child Development in its first year, the highest a new facility can achieve.
Besides running a $100 million company, Mitchell is a founder and significant benefactor of Faith in America - a non-profit organization dedicated to educating people about religion-based bigotry and how it is being used to justify discrimination against GLBT people (www.faithinamerica.info). Mitchell was named one of Advocate Magazine's 2006 "People of the Year" for his work with Faith in America. He was also a member of the Board of Directors of the Washington, DC-based Human Rights Campaign, an advocacy group for gay rights.
Based on the combination of Bob's design talent and Mitchell's savvy business skills, the Gold/Williams team has been recognized with numerous awards, including Design 100 awards from Metropolitan Home, as well as a profile in Inc. magazine's annual "Top Entrepreneur's We Love" issue. The company is also known for its ground-breaking advertising campaigns, its popular website www.mgandbw.com, a corporate culture that respects diversity, and its support of nonprofit groups dedicated to equal rights for all.
The evening's celebration will also spotlight local organizations with the Chamber's Business Excellence Awards. The recipients, recognized for their business contributions to the Chamber and the GLBT community are:
- The UPS Store/Thom Dance, Business of the Year, sponsored by Southwest Airlines
- Lorie Burch, Business Person of the Year, sponsored by EDS
